OLVI AND MAITOMAA TO LAUNCH EXTENSIVE PRODUCT PARTNERSHIP

Olvi plc and Osuuskunta Maitomaa, a cooperative based in Suonenjoki, have entered into an agreement concerning product development, manufacture and marketing of milk-based beverages. The manufacture of new products will start in the second half of this year.

Olvi will be responsible for the distribution and marketing of products to be manufactured at Osuuskunta Maitomaa’s production facility. The aseptic production and packaging of preservable products will be carried out on a new production line worth almost 4 million euro in machinery and equipment investments.

The partnering companies are involved in a product development project funded by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. The project is aimed to make new trend-setting moves in the growing well-being market. New product groups and products are set to respond to the present and future needs of different groups of people.

The long-term objective for the partnership is to become a market leader in specified product groups.

In 1878 Master Brewer William Gideon Åberg and his wife Onni founded a brewery in Iisalmi. In the spirit of Zacharias Topelius they wanted to offer milder alternatives to citizens possessed by a lust for spirits. Olvi has remained an independent Finnish brewery throughout the years. Its main brands today are OLVI (beers, mineral water and long drinks), Sandels beers, FIZZ ciders, KevytOlo mineral water and TEHO energy drink.

Osuuskunta Maitomaa is a cooperative dairy owned and administered by milk producers. It is based in Suonenjoki in the Inner Savonia region and was founded in 1915. The cooperative has 135 members in the regions of Southern and Northern Savonia and Central Finland. It is the only dairy in Eastern Finland that packages liquid milk, and currently employs approximately 60 milk processing professionals.
